Golf GPS = Instant Improvement in Your Game?

golf gpsHave you ever wished you could buy something that would instantly improve your golf game. Most of the time anyone promises instant results, you should probably say no. But the world of golf has recently seen the introduction of an item that might be able to make good on that promise. It’s the golf GPS, and if you’re serious about wanting to improve your golf game, you should take a look.

How does it work? A golf GPS is much like the now-familiar GPS units for your car. Using a network of satellites, GPS devices can pinpoint your position anywhere on the planet. When you take this technology and pair it up with golf course information, you are suddenly given information at which you could only guess in the past.

I’m primarily talking about distance to the hole. Choosing the right golf club, accounting for the wind, deciding on direction–all of these decisions require knowing how far you are from the hole. Find me a scratch golfer, and I’ll bet he or she is an excellent judge of distance. Owning a golf GPS puts that skill directly in your hands.

The GPS figures out where you are. From the golf course maps loaded into the device, it knows where the hole is. By comparing these two locations, the GPS tells you precisely how many yards or meters lie between you and your target. When you have this data, you’ll know which club to pull out of your bag. Plus, as you compare the GPS measurement with what you see in real life, I willing to wager that your judgement skills will increase tremendously.

One of the coolest features I like (and you should look for) in a golf GPS is constant, real-time updating. As you walk along the course, it automatically adjusts your distance to the hole. After you’ve sunk your putt and approach the next tee, the GPS automatically updates to the next hole. Pretty neat, don’t you think?

Like most gadgets, there’s a wide range of models and prices. You can also get software that works with other devices. And if you’re an iPhone user, then yes, there’s an app for that. In fact, there are several. Get a golf GPS and start playing with the confidence that comes from knowing exactly what to do next.
